DATE CHANGES LATEST REV. #

1/1/91 Autocolor mouse enable/disable now still 1.1
works correctly after rez change from
desktop. Formerly, Autocolor did survive
the change, but the mouse control over
it did not.

List of REVISIONS to ELF-BOOT utilities (booties!)

6/7/91 ELFHELP.PRG Bug fix. Program was not 1.1
preparing STARTGEM.INF files
correctly, and in some cases,
the program you picked would
not run.
7/11/91 ELFSTART.PRG **** NEW FILE! ****. This 1.0
program replaces STARTGEM for
machines with TOS 1.4 and
higher, as described below.
The main doc file (or manual) states that the 'RUN PROGRAM' option
cannot be used on TOS 1.4 (or higher) machines, because it requires the
included "STARTGEM.PR" file, which doesn't work with the new TOS's.
This problem has now been resolved by the "ELFSTART.PRG" file included in
the ELFBOOT package, but the doc file (and manual) have not yet been updated.
So, if your atari has TOS 1.4 or higher, simply install ELF-BOOT as
described in the manual, but substitute the "ELFSTART.PRG" file whenever
"STARTGEM.PR" is mentioned. Then, the RUN PROGRAM option will work normally.
This will make more sense when you read the docs. Also, ignore any messages
concerning STARTGEM displayed by the ELFBOOT program itself.
One point for TOS 1.4 (and higher) users that might cause confusion
is ELFBOOT's automatic handling of the original STARTGEM.PR file. Again,
this will make more sense after you've read the manual. The docs state that
you don't have to worry about enabling/disabling STARTGEM because ELFBOOT
will do so automatically as needed. When using ELFSTART in place of STARTGEM,
this is not true. ELFSTART.PRG should _ALWAYS_ be enabled, and ELFBOOT will
not automatically alter it. Functionally, this is completely transparent to
the user, BUT, there are a few things to keep in mind:
1) When copying ELFSTART.PRG to your AUTO folder, make sure you leave
the ".PRG" extender intact! The manual assumes you are using
"STARTGEM.PR", (note the shortened "PR" extender).
2) The folder called "STARTGEM" must still be created as mentioned in
the docs, since ELFBOOT still expects to find data files there.
3) Finally, if you used ELFBOOT previously and have just upgraded
to TOS 1.4, you will have to re-build your macros! Macros always
update the entire AUTO folder, and disable any 'un-desired' entries.
ELFSTART will get disabled since it was not included when the macros
were built!
